A fat loss supplement may seem like a good idea, but according to Dr David Devereaux, it is not the way forward.
He says a lot of the advice around weight loss drinks is wrong.
Mr Devereux has worked in weight loss for 30 years, but has recently come to the conclusion that the fat loss drinks being promoted by the manufacturers have not been scientifically tested.
He also thinks some of the information they are giving is not really about weight loss.
“If you are looking for something to get you in shape, you are going to need a lot more than a single drink,” he said.

Dr Deveres recommends a one to two week supply of the supplement containing a protein-rich diet.
The diet should be very low in carbohydrates and high in protein, he said, with a minimum of 30 to 40g of carbohydrates a day.
He recommends the supplement should be taken once a week and followed by a weight loss program, and should be used as a replacement for the prescription drug metformin.
The supplement is free and easy to use, but people should check it out for themselves to make sure it is suitable for them.
Dr David said that if you are a very fit person with a lean body mass and low waist and hip circumference you should take a moderate amount of fat-loss supplement.
“The fat loss diet is not designed for people who are going for an extra pound of weight, so the supplements are a good way of reducing that amount,” he added.
“People with a body fat of 30 per cent or more should have at least one drink, and that should be one or two times a week.”
Dr Deverseaux says there are other options available, such as a low-calorie diet.
He said there are also plenty of other forms of exercise and a good diet can keep your metabolism going for longer.
“When you eat a healthy diet, you don’t need to worry about what you are eating or how much you are getting,” he explained.
“There are lots of other things you can do to help you lose weight and keep it off.”
In my experience, I have found that there are people who want to get their weight off that do not get the benefit of taking a fat loss product.
